Road Trip!

Greetings to you all!

Neighbours Day Aotearoa is fast approaching and Sam and Cissy are gearing up to hit the road again!

As many of you know, last year we travelled the length of the country, connecting with as many of you as possible. And once again, in just over a month we will be coming to a town near you! Starting on October 29th on the north island’s west coast, we will be driving Aotearoa and stopping along the way to chat with locals about community, connection and neighbours.

Our interactive workshops  are a chance to develop and refresh some of the skills we all need when working in communities. We explore ways to reach out and include all the different people that make up our communities. These workshops are ideal for neighbours, community leaders, organisations, anyone that wants to build more connection. We will all learn from each other in a fun and supportive environment.

Greetings to you all, Sam and Cissy here to talk to you about Neighbours Day Aotearoa 2020!

The dates have now been set, so pop them in your calendars!  Neighbours Day Aotearoa 2020 will run from the 27th of March to the 5th of April. It’s a great chance to connect with your neighbours, or to celebrate the amazing things you’ve been doing in your neighbourhood.

Coming to a town near you!

We will be doing another Road Trip in October/November of this year, up and down the full length of Aotearoa. So you know how it goes – If you would like Sam and Cissy to come and run a workshop in your community then we would love to hear from you!

The workshops this year will really be focussed on engagement.  How do we engage with people that we normally wouldn’t engage with?  So we are looking for community leaders and members of the community to come together and work up those ideas, so you can leave with some tangible ways of engaging more people in Neighbours Day Aotearoa events.

We also are happy to have a more informal set up – a cup of tea or a chat with groups as we travel the country.

Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, and to check out the Neighbours Day Aotearoa website. You can also email us, tweet or message about the kinds of resources you want to see happening.  Please stay in touch!

Looking forward to connecting with you all

Sam, Cissy and the Neighbours Day Aotearoa crew.

Celebrating 10 years of Neighbours Day Aotearoa

Neighbours Day Aotearoa 10 year celebrations begin today. We also wanted to acknowledge that it’s also been a week since the terrible events in Christchurch. We want to send our love and support to our Muslim communities and people of Christchurch.

Over the next 10 days (March 22-31) there will be events happening all across the country – big and small – organised by you to celebrate and foster connected neighbours. Thank you so much to all of you who have made plans to host or attend a Neighbours Day Aotearoa event in the next 10 days.

Wellbeing: by Pepper Raccoon – When our neighbourhoods are connected, and spiritual, physical and emotional health are taken care of, we feel comfortable, happy and healthy.

Empowered: by Pinky Fang – We feel confident to take action when we feel supported by strong social networks and relationships.

Caring and Safety: by Ash Spittal – When we start from a place of neighbourly caring and generosity, feelings of trust, safety and belonging increase.

Resilience: by Gala Hesson – We can recover quickly from difficulties when we are prepared, we know our neighbours and can ask for and offer support.

Inclusion: by Huriana Kopeke-Te Aho – We feel accepted in the community when we are allowed to be ourselves, can stretch outside of our comfort zones, and are included in other people’s worlds.

Thank you again, to all of you who have supported Neighbour Day Aotearoa over the last 10 years to help connect neighbours.
